School and Councils
We look after the grounds for numerous schools and councils, always fitting our work to their timetables. We fit around sports days, exams, school and parish fetes, council gatherings, and tailor our mowing schedule so that your grounds are always ready for matches.
As a Scofell client, you‘ll have a contract manager dedicated to you, which gives you continuity of service and means we always know what you need. Most importantly, all our staff are DBS checked, and always wear uniform, so you know exactly who they are.
Schools and Councils Services
Our wide range of machinery means that we always have the right mower for the job, whether it‘s gang mowing for large recreation grounds, using cut-and-drop, or cut-and collect for the more specialist mowing of cricket pitches.
We have a tractor with turf tyres so the tyres don’t damage the grass.
Mowing and strimming around graves require special attention, and our team work with care and sensitivity in churchyards and cemeteries, leaving areas for wildflowers where desired.
Your schedule is our schedule: we can mow once a week in the summer, or once a month or 12 times a year to suit.
We own all sorts and sizes of strimmer, to help keep schools, council grounds and cemeteries tidy. We strim carefully around any obstacles, the edges of paths and graves, and over uneven ground.
We often use battery-powered strimmers, especially when working near classrooms and during exam season, to keep noise levels to a minimum.
No hedge is too tall, too long or too intricate: our equipment includes long-pole and short-arm hedge-cutters, and a mobile raised platform for the tallest hedges. For long stretches of hedges, we have two sizes of tractor with a sidearm flail. We also cut castellated hedges.
We do not cut hedges during the nesting season.
We have a range of leaf blowers, so we can use our battery-powered blowers in areas where we need to be quieter, such as near classrooms or offices.
If the site allows, we collect the fallen leaves so that they can mulch down. We then use the mulch as compost on the beds the following year.
All our operatives have the appropriate spraying certificate for weed control. We use only approved herbicides, and carry out spot applications or boom spraying as necessary.
We are also qualified in waterside weed control, and work closely with the Environment Agency whenever we are treating riverside weeds such as Himalayan balsam.
We offer a litter-picking service in school and council car parks and large open public spaces. We can do this as frequently as you wish: daily, weekly or monthly.
Our team members are trained in removing and disposing of sharps, and are also able to remove chewing gum.
We have long experience in looking after natural sports surfaces: grass tennis courts, football pitches, cricket grounds, all-weather racetracks, hard tennis courts and netball courts.
We keep grass surfaces in top condition by regular maintenance, including overseeding, fertilising, aerating, harrowing, rolling, and renovating goalmouth areas. We make sure our visits fit around your match schedules.
Our team can make sure that the lines on your grass and synthetic pitches are marked clearly, accurately and quickly, using our cutting-edge GPS system. Pitches can be adjusted to fit into smaller areas and custom text and logos can be uploaded and marked out for special occasions such as school open days and sports days.
Any disruption to the school day is kept to a minimum due to the speed and efficiency of this system and the precise locations of pitches can be saved and remarked year on year.
Scofell offers a winter gritting service. Our temperature-monitoring service means that our teams can spring into action with gritting and de-icing whenever frost and ice are forecast.
In most cases we do this overnight, to maximise protection and ensure you’re prepared for business as usual in the morning.
When it snows, our teams will come and clear your access roads and major footpaths.
Snow clearance goes hand in hand with our winter gritting service, where our teams carry out gritting and de-icing. It’s only triggered when there’s a high chance of snow or ice, so you won’t be charged unnecessarily.
